The Continent is an efficient and versatile four-high tower press for printing colour newspapers and semi-commercials. It is a single-width, single-circumference press based on the technology of our popular 2/2 Comet.

KBA Pastoline high-tech reelstand

KBA Pastoline 
Our user-friendly Pastoline automatic reelstand features AC drives, an electric braking system and divided arms. It is engineered for a maximum web speed of 13mps (2,560fpm). The arms on the standard version can be adjusted electrically in increments of one millimetre (0.039in). They can accept reels up to 1,270mm (50in) wide and weighing 1.3t (2,866lbs). To facilitate handling, the controls for the Pastoline are fully embedded in the console system. 
Special features such as pre-splice edge alignment between the new and the expiring web make the Pastoline suitable for semi-commercial production as well. 
 
The off-bearer H units in the Continent have a proven track record of easy handling, access and maintenance while delivering a top-quality print.

KBA Basko 
The Continent can be configured with one of two cutting-edge folders with a 2:3:3 cylinder ratio: the basic model, the KF 3B or our high-automation KF 3. Both folders, which have the same dimensions and interfaces, can handle broadsheet copies with up to 64 pages or tabloid copies with a maximum of 128 pages.

Distributed controls at subassembly level and sophisticated console technology with a wide choice of automation options enable press handling, control and preset to be customised to individual requirements.

  • Reelstands, printing units and folders are controlled via remote processors located directly in the relevant units 
  • The processors are linked to each other and to the control console via a powerful data bus system

Copy-based operation (standard): the production preparation and control module allows individual pages to be selected directly, with the system automatically assigning the specified page to the relevant printing couple. 
Press-based operation (optional): the subassembly to be adjusted is selected directly via the graphical user interface.
