The implementation of this advanced technology to optimise its pressroom performance comes on the back of a strong performance in 2009 and means it is ideally placed to take full advantage of any uplift in market conditions.
Makereadies in minutes was one of the key factors in the decision to install the five-colour B1 KBA Rapida 106 plus coater. It complements recent investments in a KBA 162 large format press and finishing equipment.
RCS production manager Richard Todd says: "The press will increase both productivity and capacity. Any successful business needs to ensure it is equipped to go forward in a challenging market place with the most innovative technology available. The latest generation Rapida 106 does that.
“It is highly-equipped with technological innovations that will ensure not a production second is wasted. Crucial to that is KBA's Simultaneous Plate Changing which gives us faster changeover times, smoother operation, easy maintenance and cuts down on wasted sheets."
The DriveTronic SPC dedicated plate-cylinder drive system is an intelligent software-based solution supporting simultaneous plate changing in less than 60 seconds, regardless of the number of printing units. Because the makeready work and washing can also be carried out at the same time, it dramatically shortens changeover times.
It is this technology that set a world makeready record at Print 09. An eight-colour B1 Rapida 106 produced a total of 17 unique four over four-colour jobs, each with 500 saleable sheets, in one hour. The performance included a total of 136 plate changes.
Mr Todd adds: "And the reduced waste and lower power consumption of this press help RCS maintain its commitment to constantly review and improve its environmental performance."
Christian Knapp, managing director of KBA UK, says: "RCS is a good example of a forward-thinking printing company adopting KBA technology to deliver the highest quality print and most efficient service to its clients.
“We are delighted this dynamic firm has chosen to follow up its drupa investment in a Rapida 162a with such a technology-rich press. This investment ensures RCS is well-positioned to win business in the toughest market conditions without compromising margins."
