KBA UK’s First Web User Group Meet

Visits to NWN Media and UPM Kymenne Shotton formed the centrepiece of KBA UK’s inaugural Web User Group conference, held at Chester last month. The meeting, which was attended by fourteen delegates from some of the country’s leading web houses, was described as ‘a very encouraging first step’ by KBA UK MD Christian Knapp.

Although sponsored by KBA, Mr Knapp was eager to stress the intention was to create an open minded forum rather than owners’ club:
“Users of similar systems and machines can benefit from the chance to share knowledge and pool experiences. We want the meetings to be informative and interesting and chose to start the initiative with visits to two progressive North Wales sites with high profiles in the newspaper sector. It also gave the delegates a chance to chat informally in a more relaxed environment.”
BPL (Broughton Printers Limited), Newsquest Glasgow, Webprint Concepts Ireland, Cumbrian Newspapers, Trinity Mirror Printing and Saltire Print were among companies represented.

The programme began with a tour of independent NWN Media in Mold whose newspaper portfolio includes the three-edition Evening Leader and weekly papers across Chester, Ellesmere Port, north and mid-Wales.
This was followed with a tour of UPM Kymmene Shotton’s, Ellesmere Port site and an overview of the newsprint manufacturing process for 100% recycled paper from the arrival of waste paper through to the newly-manufactured reels packed ready for shipment.
Mr Knapp concludes: “Everyone found the tours very enlightening and they certainly generated a lot of talking points. It also gave us at KBA the chance to forge stronger relationships with our customers, answer questions and listen to suggestions on ways we can improve our service offering.”
